The County Medical Examiners: Olidous operettas

The County Medical Examiners is basically a Carcass rip-off band. Is that a bad thing? Of course not! Carcass are one of the best things man has made, after birth-control pills and sliced bread.
No one really knows who these guys are, but who cares, really, the important thing is that they make quality metal. “Olidous Operettas”, which happens to be a fantastic album name, is their first release, and it shows a lot of promise.
The music(?) presented here is totally reminiscent of “Necroticism” and even a touch “Reek of Putrefaction” here and there. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, leave. Now. Or I will kill you, gut you, examine your internal organs and put them in incomprehensible categories. The most startling thing here is how the band manages to completely copy Carcass’s style, and yet their song-writing is totally fresh. This may be partly due to a more polished production, which at no moment takes anything from the sound. Some riffs may sound similar to their predecessors, but what’s being played here is genuine and well worth checking out.
The vocals, recorded in the good, old-fashioned deep growl/desperate rasp combo, is totally true to old school death metal gore. Jeff Walker would be proud. And I don’t even have to mention the brilliant track names, do I? When you name your songs something like “Maturating Decompositional Gas”, you know you can’t go wrong.
Nothing new here, quite the contrary, but highly recommended for all those who miss the better days, the early days of death metal, all celebrated in its gory, bloody, clinical glory.
The cover: Faces similar to what you would see in the “Bodies” exhibit. Awesome.
